This is a blog created as a final project for a university class discussing the globalization of Japanese popular culture. In this blog, I would like to discuss several controversies that I have noticed in Japanese fashion (includes examples of words, logos and symbols used in street fashion and clothes worn by celebrities as well as subcultures). I chose this topic as my subject because I personally remember experiencing a few peculiar encounters with Japanese clothing when I came to this country for the first time. Now I have learned to take the occasionally offensive symbols and words with a grain of salt, but I still felt that I knew very little of this phenomenon, so I hope that this blog will help foreigners such as myself understand why these things are not frowned upon in Japan and maybe even make some Japanese more aware of what is printed in the front of their shirts.
